Our lovely church, St. James, part of the Glem Valley United Benefice.

It is a beautiful ancient building with an open church yard. It is in serious danger of closing due to lack of support - there are no longer any church wardens or church council to look after the building. Please contact Rev Mary if you might be able to help - 017878 280 740.
There is excellent news about the church opening though - it will usually now be unlocked on Tuesdays and Fridays (10 - 5 in the summer and 10 - 3 in the winter.  The side door of the church will be unlocked (not the main doors) - you are welcome to visit, to pray, and to just "be" in this special place.

The clock in the tower is the village War Memorial, and has a new lease of life, after a huge fund-raising effort by the Tower and War Memorial Fund.

Notes on the church building (made some years ago) are available to download here, and some general notes on Suffolk church buildings.

Simon Knott's Suffolk Churches website also has some interesting information about the fabric of the building.

A survey of the Churchyard in July 2023 revealed that we have an amazing 67 different plants, as well as 10 trees and shrubs!  Detailed list available here, and if anyone is interested in getting more involved in the church yard and wildlife, the Rector would love to hear from you - Rev. Mary Styles, 01787 280740 or email revmarye@gmail.com.

A service is held once a month, usually at 9am on the second Sunday.

More details on https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/2197/

Our Rector is Rev. Mary Styles, 01787 280740, revmarye@gmail.com.

Contact is the magazine for the Benefice - available in Stanstead from Caroline Jones on 281572/07913 842470.
